One of the things that must worry just about every second-time parent is how the two siblings will get along, and in particular, how the older child will react to his/her world being forever altered. Well, the jury is still out on those issues for us, but so far, things seem to be going pretty well. Morgen seems genuinely interested in Lillian and tries her best to be "gentle" around her. Still, there are moments when the potential for difficulties becomes apparent.
Here's the progression of one recent playtime episode between our toddler and newborn.
1. Baby toy gets set up for the newborn's use. Toddler immediately decides this is the best toy ever and commandeers it.

2. An attempt is made to come to an amicable arrangement to share the toy.

3. A higher authority (Mom) intervenes and removes the newborn from the well-meaning, but somewhat overenthusiastic attempts of the toddler to get baby sister to play.
